Abstract

Vitamin D3 (cholecalciferol) is a fat-soluble vitamin that plays a crucial role in maintaining calcium and phosphate homeostasis, supporting bone health, and modulating immune function. While its supplementation is widely recommended to address deficiency, excessive intake can lead to toxicity, manifesting as hypercalcaemia . This condition is associated with a range of gastrointestinal symptoms, including constipation, nausea, vomiting, and abdominal pain. This review aims to assess the safety profile and therapeutic efficacy of Vitamin D3 supplementation, particularly focusing on its role in calcium metabolism, the pathophysiology of hypercalcaemia, and the clinical management strategies employed to mitigate these adverse effects.
